Penny’s Story

She had multiple puncture wounds, and her eye was swollen shutPenny, the bully-pitbull mix, was brought to our Rescue Center on a freezing cold day in January, 2013. Rescued from a pitbull breeding kennel, she lived a life outdoors, without a family to love her. She slept on a cold concrete floor, stuck in a 6x12 pen.

Bloodied from a fight with another dog, she had multiple puncture wounds on her face, and one ear was almost detached and hanging off. She was bleeding internally, and softly moaned as we began to treat her. Even though she was covered in blood and shivering from the cold, her tail wagged slowly when we approached her. It was evident that once we started to treat her wounds, she was a very special and loving dog.

We cleaned her wounds, stitched her ear back on, and so began her recovery. She was with us for over 2 months before we were able to spay her. Penny is now fully recovered, and lives with us full time.  She is a living reminder that our rescue work can and does make a difference in the lives of the many dogs trusted to our care.
